🔎 The business case for AI in education

Yep, today’s topic is AI in education. This industry more or less did not exist a year ago, and is expected to explode 10x to a $24bn.

» You are early to the game. «

5 reasons why everyone’s excited about this space right now:

→ Personalized Learning: Adapt to the interest, learning pace and style - "The Infinite Article" concept

→ Efficient Administrative Tasks: Automate grading and scheduling.

→ Valuable Insights: Identify learning gaps for improved learning outcomes.

→ Enhanced Accessibility: AI can help to make education more accessible. For example, speech-to-text technology can help students who have difficulty writing, and AI-powered translation tools can make learning materials available in multiple languages.

→ Interactive Learning: VR or AR educational games to make learning more engaging and fun.

👀 Examples of real startups

ELSA: A mobile application for pronunciation training and accent reduction using speech recognition. Funding: $25.3M.

Amira Learning: An intelligent reading assistant that listens, assesses, and tutors. Funding: $40.3M.

Tabitha: [Indie startup version] Milly Barker sold Tabitha, a browser-based teaching assistant a few months ago for $5k!

💀 Risks

  • Data privacy: There’s always a risk when collecting and storing sensitive personal data.

  • Backlash on AI: Some educators want to ban the use of AI. Full stop. Make sure you recognise their concerns in your website copy.

  • Accuracy: If you’re grading someone, make sure the tool is robust. A child’s future is at stake here (literally).
