📣 Community Shout Outs

Virgil - We met a while back when we both started taking Twitter seriously. He’s built some pretty lucrative funnels (he’s in the Clickfunnels 2-Comma-Club 👀) and is one of the first I’d invite to guest speak for the Paperclip community when we launch. Check out his free course creation newsletter.

Trustin - He’s a real wizard when it comes to building apps using only free plans on no-code website builders (like this one). My second Paperclip Challenge app - Narrated Tours, would not have been possible without his help. What a legend.

Let's get back to today's topic 👇

🔎 The common ChatGPT struggle

Trying to come up with a “good” idea can sometimes feel like trying to hit the bullseye with a dart while blindfolded.

Today, we're not going to talk about the conventional ways of coming up with ideas - things like keeping an ideas journal, observing or conducting focus groups to understand pain points. (I do this at the corporate venture studio I worked at, and it takes A LOT of work.) You can still do those for sure, but what if you want good ideas, like right NOW?!

Today we're going to explore using chatGPT for idea generation (in PRO mode).

👀 Ideating with GPT (5 minutes to turn in you into ideation PRO)

1️⃣ Hack #1: Ask for underrated, quirky ideas related to an industry

When you ask chatGPT for ideas related to your industry, try to steer it towards the underrated or quirky ideas. Examples: Unique products not commonly found on Amazon or Etsy; Interesting course ideas not typically offered on Coursera or Udemy but with a big audience.

2️⃣ Hack #2: Ask it to exclude the top [10] answers

To prevent chatGPT from coming up with the same old tired ideas, ask it to exclude the top 10-20 answers (this number works well). This will force it to think outside the box and come up with more unique and unexpected ideas.

3️⃣ Hack #3: Ask it to come up with pain points

When using chatGPT, ask it to come up with pain points for a specific sub-demographic, and then generate ideas that address these pain points. Example: If you're in the fitness industry, you could ask chatGPT to generate ideas for workout routines that target specific body types or injuries.

Also, check out this cool tool created by my #100daysofnocode course mate, Jenny that critiques your idea from your potential users’ lens.

4️⃣ Hack #4: Ask it to keep it simple and using only no-code tools

If you don't want to end up with ideas that require $100 million in VC funding, ask chatGPT to keep it simple and using only no-code tools. Perfect for help with creating an MVP:

5️⃣ Hack #5: Ask it to incorporate your expertise and remix ideas

Ask chatGPT to help you play to your strengths by telling it your unique background and interests. Examples: You have a wellness degree, and you're an avid runner and want to start freelance, or you're a software engineer with experience in fintech, and want to start a side hustle in the personal finance space.

🔥 A directory of 500 AI ideas?

Still too much work?

I'm currently creating a directory of 500 juicy AI ideas using the exact framework above that includes 👀 a list of 500 AI business ideas, the problem it solves, the target audience & growth hacks for your first 100 customers.👀 I am curating it for myself as part of The Startup Paperclip Challenge, but I thought what a waste to keep all the ideas to myself. So I am putting it on Gumroad. Pre-order a copy for $9.99 (will send alongside the next newsletter issue)

✨Don’t forget your freebie ✨

As a thank you, here is a Google Sheet directory of the first 65 ideas (together with the prompts I used to get them) for $0. No, you don’t need to buy anything from me to get it.❤️

Was this email useful?

My entire purpose in creating these emails are to highlight unusual opportunities for you to find your next big business idea.

I hope it's doing that. If it is, let me know by replying.

Until the next one,

Hazel
